Léon Geiile de Saint-Leger (1864 - 1937) (124 auctions) Painter born in Algeria, who painted North Africa extensively. Here, a view of a village, certainly in Brittany, in oil on cardboard. A painting dominated by warm hues... an atmosphere of mystery with a play of chiaroscuro that might remind us of Renaissance painters. This is an unusual painting, like an illustrator's work, or why not a landscape recreated from memory or from a photo. Signature lower right, carved into the paint layer. Louis XV-style frame in average condition, which probably doesn't sublimate the painter's work.
